Student collapses after vaping fentanyl-laced product

A student in Tompkins County nearly died after vaping what they believed was marijuana, but was later found to be laced with fentanyl. The teen collapsed inside a school hallway and required multiple doses of Narcan to survive, according to authorities.

The vape was reportedly bought from an unlicensed convenience store, highlighting the growing danger of illicit products being sold to teens. Officials confirmed the device tested positive for fentanyl, a drug so potent that just a few grains can be fatal.

School leaders are urging parents to have direct conversations with their children, warning that even one use can have deadly consequences.
